BRITISH COLUMBIA WINS MORSE CUP

Members of the British Columbia Golf Association team that won the 2003 Morse Cup were (l-r) Pacific Coast Golf Association Trustees Gary Coblenz and Chuck Gage; players Craig Doell, Dan Swanson and James Lepp; and PCGA President Jim Halliday.

WEST VANCOUVER, B.C., August 6 – A record-breaking round by James Lepp and solid play from Craig Doell powered the British Columbia Golf Association to an overwhelming victory in the Morse Cup Team Competition of the 37th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship. It was BCGA’s first Morse Cup victory in 15 years of competition.

With the best two of three scores counting each day, BCGA totaled 265, nine shots in front of the Southern California GA and 10 shots in front of defending champion Northern California GA.

BC’s victory was even more impressive when one considers the scores left out each day. Lepp’s 8-under-par 62 and Doell’s 67 counted for the second-round 129, while Dan Swanson’s 71 was a throw-out score. In the first round, BC didn’t count a 1-under-par 69 by Doell as Lepp posted 67 and Swanson had a 68.
